CEUs for Social Workers

The SWCHRS Live Learning Lab fills a critical gap by offering flexible, relevant, and accessible opportunities for CEUs. The SWCHRS Live Learning Lab ensures social workers across the country meet their state CEU requirements. By providing engaging and affordable learning experiences, we support social workers across the Southwest region and beyond in sustaining the health of the profession while improving the quality of care for individuals, families, and communities.

Many programs are eligible for continuing education contact hours for social workers. Sessions that include an NASW Approval # and the official NASW statement in their description have been approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for continuing education contact hours.

For programs that are not NASW-approved, this statement will not appear, and no approval number will be listed.

Responding to Suicide Risk: Assessment and Treatment (NASW Approval # 886970186-1332)

Live Learning Lab — Leena Said

Date & Time: September 30, 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM CT

Location: Virtual (Zoom)

Session Details: Suicide is among the most serious challenges clinicians encounter, yet many practitioners report feeling underprepared to have direct, compassionate conversations with clients who may be at risk. This workshop provides a foundational framework for understanding and responding to suicide risk in clinical settings. Participants will begin with a grounding in the epidemiology of suicide in the United States, including prevalence, population-level risk factors, and current trends, before moving into the relational and clinical skills that make these conversations possible.

This training offers practical guidance for clinicians on how to initiate and sustain a therapeutic conversation about suicidal ideation, how to conduct a structured screening and assessment, and how to use clinical judgment to navigate disposition decisions. Rather than treating risk assessment as a procedural checklist, this workshop positions it as a clinical encounter rooted in relationships, curiosity, and collaboration. Participants will leave with both a conceptual framework and concrete tools they can apply immediately in their practice.

Learners who attend this workshop will be able to:

1. Describe a relational approach to engaging clients in conversations about suicidal ideation.

2. Apply a structured framework for conducting suicide risk screening and assessment.

3. Identify key factors that inform disposition of decisions following a suicide risk assessment.

This program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 886970186-1332) for 2 continuing education contact hours.

FAQs

How do I earn CEUs?

Participants earn CEUs by completing all required course components by attending the live webinar and completing a survey, that can be found in their account. CEU certificates will be sent out one week after the webinar.

How long will I have access to a course?

Participants retain access to the recorded session for one full year from the date of purchase or registration, which allows them to revisit the content.

When and how do I get my certificate?

Participants should complete the survey as soon as possible. One week after the webinar, staff will verify and send out the CEU certificates. If you still do not have the certificate email after 2 weeks, please reach out to swchrs@ou.edu for assistance.

Will these hours count for my social work license?

Yes. CEU courses are designed to meet Social Work licensing standards for continuing education. If a specific type of credit is offered, such as ethics or supervision, it will be clearly indicated.

What if I lose my certificate?

Participants can download an additional copy using the download link in their emails. If they need assistance, the team can resend it upon request.
